JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Position:                           Commercial Loan Officer Trainee
Reports To:                             Senior Loan Officer
Assigned Schedule:                Various Depending on Branch Need
Job Status:                              Non-Exempt

Job Summary:  Performs assigned duties, responsibilities, and studies throughout the bank, and becomes familiar with the operations and procedures in each department assigned.  Under a specified training program; the trainee will be required to train in other branch/department locations occasionally.  Trainee may have limited decision making authority.  After completion of the training program, incumbent's responsibilities will include analysis and monitoring the credit worthiness of assigned account base, develop new business, provide service for installment loans, and gain knowledge in other duties associated with lending. 

Essential Duties:

Assigned a specified training program on a rotation schedule to study the essential functions of that department, such as:

  • Teller, New Accounts, Loan Processing, Information Systems, Electronic Banking, Compliance, Operations,Finance, Human Resources, Security, and Lending
  • Complete required training and compliance with Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering policies, procedures, including identification of suspicious activity, CTR(Currency Transaction Report) preparation and other job specific      policies/procedures pertaining to this position.

Loan Officer Trainee duties trained by Senior Lending Management and/or other Bank staff:

  • Conducts credit investigations and analyzes credit information pertaining to loans.
  • Investigates all available sources of credit and financial information.
  • Analyzes financial statements and related materials.
  • Prepares summaries and present facts.
  • Provides credit information and references for customers and loan officers as requested.
  • Ensures all credit files include current financial statements and/or other agency reports.
  • Watching for any developing problems and keeping loan officers informed.
  • Services a variety of business and individual loans both secured and unsecured.
  • Be trained on how to interview credit applicants, determine loan risk, and become skilled at reviewing pledged collateral.
  • Gain knowledge and understand bank policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Gradual advancement to more complex loans.
  • Develops and maintains account relationships, both credit and non-credit.
  • May participate in business development activities.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as required by business needs.
  • Complete required training and compliance with Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering policies, procedures, including identification of suspicious activity, (CTR Currency Transaction Report) preparation and other job specific policies/procedures pertaining to this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand lending laws and practices.
  • Strong analytical and credit skills.
  • A strong math aptitude and computer skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain organizational structure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate a variety of activities.
  • Skills in the operation of a personal computer with word processing and spreadsheet software, PC based programs, and intra/internet.
  • Ability to make sound judgments.
  • Ability to understand many areas of banking.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position constantly. 
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets and other office      machinery; such as a copy and/or fax machine.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery; such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and/or customers who have credit and financial      inquiries.  Must be able to exchange information in these situations.
  • Constantly assesses information from computer,manuals, spreadsheets and other bank systems.
  • Ability to transport file boxes to another work location (records vault).
  • Ability to drive and/or ride in a vehicle to attend educational training or required meetings.

Education / Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in business, finance, agriculture, economics or a closely related field.
